Centerstone receives $165,391 grant from Bishop-Parker Foundation to support critical hospital upgrades

Centerstone, a nonprofit leader in mental health and substance use disorder treatment, has been awarded a $165,391grant from the Bishop-Parker Foundation to support infrastructure improvements at its Behavioral Hospital & Addiction Center in Bradenton. The grant will fund the installation of skylights in the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) and a remodel of the psychiatric stabilization unit, helping create a more therapeutic, trauma-informed healing environment for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.

Centerstone’s Behavioral Hospital & Addiction Center provides inpatient psychiatric and crisis care to individuals of all ages who are experiencing mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, PTSD, and substance use disorders. Many of the patients served are underinsured or uninsured and face significant barriers to accessing behavioral healthcare.

The project will include the following components:

Skylights in the CSU: New skylights will be installed in the Crisis Stabilization Unit to bring natural light into the space, a proven element in trauma-informed design that promotes calm, reduces stress, and supports healing.

Remodel of the psychiatric stabilization unit: Renovations will allow for greater separation between acute and non-acute populations, improving patient and staff safety and helping ensure patients receive care tailored to their level of need.

The renovations aim to enhance both the functionality and therapeutic quality of the hospital setting, helping to improve outcomes for more than 2,000 Manatee County residents annually. Access to natural light and thoughtfully designed environments has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, improve cognitive functioning, and increase patient engagement in treatment. The Bishop-Parker Foundation’s continued investment in health and human services has helped nonprofit organizations like Centerstone create lasting, community-centered
