Centerstone to build new children’s wing thanks to $109,500 grant award from Impact100 SRQ

Sarasota, Fla. – Centerstone, a nonprofit leader in mental health and substance use disorder treatment, was announced as a grant recipient at Impact100 SRQ’s 6th Annual Celebration and Awards Ceremony on January 22. The $109,500 grant will fund the creation of a dedicated children’s wing at Centerstone’s outpatient clinic in Sarasota. The new children’s wing will feature a therapeutic sensory room and evidence-based therapies designed to support children and families experiencing a mental health crisis.

The initiative aims to serve more than 600 children annually, providing them with access to trauma-informed spaces and therapies like Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP). These interventions are designed to address the needs of children dealing with trauma and mental health challenges, improving outcomes for both children and members of their family.

“We are honored to receive this transformational funding from Impact100 SRQ,” said Roger Johnson, interim regional chief executive officer at Centerstone. “This grant enables us to create a nurturing, innovative environment where children and families can begin to heal. The sensory room and specialized therapies will allow our team to provide the best possible care to those who need it most.”

The project will involve the following components:

Sensory Room Creation: Two underutilized offices will be renovated into a sensory room, equipped with calming tools to support children struggling with trauma, behavioral concerns, or sensory processing issues. A one-way mirror will also enable therapists to provide advanced, evidence-based therapies.

Trauma-Informed Design: Renovations to existing spaces within the clinic will create a welcoming, child-friendly atmosphere, fostering comfort and safety for young clients and their caregivers.

Therapist Training: Eight clinical staff members will receive training in PCIT and CPP, expanding Centerstone’s ability to provide these high-impact interventions. In Sarasota County, where one in six children experiences mental health challenges or trauma, Centerstone’s initiative will help bridge critical gaps in access to care. By addressing these urgent needs, the project will foster improved family relationships, reduced behavioral challenges, and greater resilience in the community.

Impact100 SRQ’s dedication to funding innovative, transformational initiatives has empowered nonprofit organizations like Centerstone to drive lasting change. Since 2019, Impact100 SRQ has distributed over $3.27 million in grants, with Centerstone’s project being one of the latest to benefit from this generosity.
