Island Gallery and Studios proudly presents our Featured Artist for March — Artist Darryl Goldman
Title: “Florida Living”
Dates: Saturday, March 1 — Monday 31, 2025 hosting First Friday Artist Reception, March 7, 5-7pm
This March we proudly present our featured artist’s exhibit “Florida Living,” by Local Artist Darryl Goldman. With passion he states, “Florida is a place of abundant natural beauty and a laid-back lifestyle. The state’s rich history and vibrant culture, with food, music and architecture heavily influenced by immigrants from Cuba, Spain and Italy, making it an artist’s paradise.
When Darryl was a child in grammar school his teachers often encouraged him by putting his drawings on the bulletin board in the hallway. A fellow second-grader invited him to a lesson with an elderly art teacher and that was the beginning of a life-long devotion to the visual arts. However, a 25-year career as a US Army chaplain serving American soldiers in the US and abroad allowed little time for painting. After promotion to colonel, he retired from the Army to pastor several churches. Today, he is fully retired and enjoying the life of a full-time artist. “Retirement has finally given me the time to devote to painting,” he said. It has also allowed him to travel around the country to study with celebrated artists such as Jove Wong, Terry Miura, and Anne Blair Brown. He describes those experiences as “life-changing.”
During the month of March, Goldman will be the Featured Artist at Island Gallery and Studios, located in downtown Bradenton. Last year he was presented on the Tampa evening news program, “What’s Right With Tampa Bay!” and was the featured artist for the Fall issue of Bradenton Magazine.
We invite you to our First Friday Artist Reception, March 7, from 5-7pm to view “Florida Living”, meet Darryl and to enjoy great local art, refreshments and music. Darryl will also be giving away an original oil painting through a month-long drawing. The painting will be posted on the counter alongside a sign-up sheet. In addition, all of Darryl’s artwork and note cards will be 10% off through the month of March. You also have a chance to talk with Darryl on March 20, along with painting demos outside the gallery on some Saturday mornings during March. So stop by and watch him create!
