TOMORROW, THURSDAY, February 27: Mascot Race to promote Mote’s 39th Annual Run for the Turtles

What: Mascots from Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium and other area businesses will participate in a “Mascot Race” to promote Mote’s upcoming 39th Annual Run for the Turtles.

When: THURSDAY, February 27. Please arrive between 9:00-9:15 a.m. for the race to begin at 9:30 a.m.

Where: Siesta Key Beach, 948 Beach Road, Siesta Key, FL 34242
*Once at the Sea Turtle Pavillion, call Kaitlyn Fusco (941-302-4997) to help direct you to the race area. 

Visuals & interviews:  News media will be able to watch mascots Shelley the turtle and Gilly the shark from Mote race against Floody the Frog from Sarasota County, Petunia from Cat Depot, Super Tooth from Varone Orthodontics, Morris from the Great Explorations Children’s Museum, Maverick the Manatee from the State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota, the Riverview High Ram and the Lakewood Ranch High Mustang.  News media will be able to interview Dr. Jake Lasala, Mote’s Sea Turtle Conservation & Research Program Manager, to learn more about the upcoming 39th Annual Run for the Turtles and Mote’s Sea Turtle Conservation & Research Program. A sanctioned 5k and 1-mile fun run, Mote’s annual Run for the Turtles supports Mote’s Sea Turtle Conservation & Research Program. The 39th Annual Run for the Turtles will be on April 5, 2025, at Siesta Key Beach.

Mote also offers a virtual run for those who cannot make it out to the beach! The virtual run can be run on one’s own time anywhere in the world between now and April 6! Mote is thrilled to welcome runners across the globe who are eager to support Mote’s sea turtle research. 

To help support Mote’s eco-friendly mission, plastic water bottles will NOT be available on the day of the race. Mote is asking all participants to please bring a reusable water bottle to the race.
