Bradenton Circulates Survey on Downtown, Neighborhoods

By Lisa Neff

What do you love about Bradenton?

And what new amenities do you want to see in The Friendly City?

The Bradenton Area Economic Development Corporation with support from the city of Bradenton is presenting those questions and others as it circulates an online community planning survey. The survey is part of a campaign to create a citywide action plan.

“This is a unique opportunity for the community to help shape Bradenton’s future,” Bradenton public information manager Tiffany Shadik said July 11.

Some of the questions are:

What do you see as Bradenton’s greatest strengths and biggest challenges?

Which specific areas or neighborhoods do you believe are most in need of revitalization or further development?

How would you describe Bradenton’s identity or character? What makes it unique?

What are your favorite outdoor spaces in Bradenton and what do you love about them?

Which types of new amenities or services would you most like to see in Bradenton?

How would you describe your ideal downtown Bradenton in 10 years?

What challenges are local businesses facing in your view?

The survey window remains open through early August, with a goal of getting a broad and representative sampling of feedback from residents, business owners, workers and others.

“The EDC is continuing to promote the survey to ensure diverse participation across all neighborhoods and stakeholder groups,” Shadik said. She added, “Anyone with a connection to Bradenton is encouraged to share their perspective.”

Already, hundreds of people have responded.

Survey input will help guide the development of a renewal plan focused on economic vitality, revitalization and quality of life.

“It will inform both near-term and long-term recommendations and will be considered alongside economic data, market analysis and stakeholder interviews,” Shadik said.

In May, the Bradenton City Council voted to forge ahead with Coral Gables-based Dover, Kohl & Partners on the broad plan that should result in renderings for waterfront development, community character, mixed-use in commercial corridors, streetscapes and public spaces.

“The plan will build on recent investments, ongoing revitalization efforts and community visioning work — including the Bradenton Visioning process and CRA updates — to create actionable steps for economic growth and development citywide,” according to Shadik.
