Local Nonprofit to Take Childhood Cancer Awareness to Times Square
On September 1, Sarasota-based Blaze of Hope will take its message to the heart of New York City, unveiling a powerful 24-hour billboard in Times Square to launch the 2025 Gold Movement. Featuring moving images, heartfelt tributes, and the gold ribbon — the international symbol for childhood cancer awareness — the display will mark the start of a month-long campaign illuminating parks, bridges, monuments, and buildings in gold around the world.
The Gold Movement, created in partnership with the 1Voice Foundation, aims to unite communities, inspire action, and make the gold ribbon as instantly recognizable as the pink ribbon for breast cancer. Throughout September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, landmarks across the globe will “Go Gold” to shine a light on the urgent need for research, support, and advocacy. Supporters everywhere are encouraged to join the wave by wearing gold, displaying gold ribbons, and sharing photos on social media using #GoldMovement and #ChildhoodCancerAwareness.
“We want to create visible symbols of hope that unite communities worldwide to raise awareness for children with cancer,” said Lisa Moore, founder of Blaze of Hope. “When families see their fight reflected in the heart of Times Square and across global landmarks, they know they are not alone — and the world knows our kids matter.”
Sponsorship opportunities for the Times Square billboard are still available, as well as greater chances to support the movement throughout September. Individuals, families, and businesses can honor a child by featuring their photo, share a personal message, or display a gold ribbon on the iconic screen — or contribute to the month-long global campaign.
