School District of Manatee County and Turning Points Partner to Launch ‘Connected Manatee’ Pilot Program
During the September 16th School Board of Manatee County Meeting,
the Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Turning Points to launch Connected Manatee, a new initiative that centralizes valuable resources to assist families.
“Connected Manatee reflects the power of collaboration between our District and community partners,” said Dr. Laurie Breslin, Superintendent of the School District of Manatee County. “By working together to meet the needs of students and their families, we are not only strengthening stability at home but also creating the conditions for success in the classroom.”
Operating from a trusted school setting, the program offers appointment-based stability services with a single referral point for teachers and staff, ensuring families are connected to the support they need.
“The goal is simple but powerful: to stabilize families so children can thrive in school. By offering appointment-based services in a setting where families feel comfortable, we believe they will reach out for help sooner. When families come earlier, we have more tools to support them before a challenge escalates into a crisis,” said Kathleen Cramer, Turning Points’ Executive Director.
Beginning January 2026, Turning Points will open a satellite office at the Lincoln Memorial Middle School Family Welcome Center in Palmetto, which is directly across from the District’s Office of Student Assignment. Services will be available to parents or legal guardians of students enrolled at Lincoln Memorial Middle, Palmetto Elementary, or through the Project Heart program, as well as eligible School District employees.
Families will be able to access:
• Resource navigation to connect with vital community services.
• Benefits enrollment assistance (such as SNAP, Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance for
Needy Families).
• Rental and utility assistance.
• On-site emergency supplies (school supplies, hygiene, and emergency food).
• Transportation help for verified appointments.
Please note: Services are appointment-based only.
