Sarasota first responder launches custom cookie company
A Sarasota law enforcement officer recently turned a lifelong passion for baking into a side hustle with the launch of Serotonin & Sugar, a custom cookie company specializing in small-batch, hand-decorated sugar cookies and treats.
Founded by Sarasota resident Lauren McElyea, Serotonin & Sugar started as a personal creative outlet that grew into a thoughtfully curated business that now offers custom cookie designs, themed collections and seasonal treats for corporate events, holidays and special occasions.
The brand’s name reflects its mission of creating treats that spark happiness, connection and a moment of calm in busy lives, a sentiment that is especially meaningful to McElyea, who balances the demands of public service with her creative pursuits.
“At the heart of Serotonin & Sugar is a decades-old, handwritten family cookie recipe,” said McElyea. “Baking is a great stress reliever for me, and sharing a family recipe with others has been incredibly fulfilling. First it was just for friends, co-workers and family, but when it started growing by referrals to businesses and event planners, I decided to launch it as a side business.”
Each Serotonin & Sugar order is handcrafted in small batches, with a focus on quality ingredients, attention to detail and designs that reflect the personality and story behind each celebration. McElyea offers custom logos and designs, as well as premium options, including gluten-free, dairy-free, organic and dye-free ingredients.
Serotonin & Sugar is now accepting custom orders throughout the Sarasota and Manatee area. A minimum order of one dozen cookies applies for custom decorated cookies.
