Super Powered Fun Helps Remake Learning in Manatee County
Bat City Comic Professionals invites the community to celebrate literacy with two spectacular weeks filled with events. Kicking off with their Academic Avengers’ Reading Academy (April 18 at 12PM), followed by their Teaching with Comics Parent and Educator Seminar (April 23 at 5:30PM), and ending with Free Comic Book Day (May 2 at 11AM), these events, located at 915 Manatee Ave E., all feature one key way to get young people excited about reading – comic books.

“As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Bat City Comic Professionals is always striving to create enthusiasm for learning through comic books, ” said Shannon Live, Educator and President of Bat City Comics. “Studies have shown that comic books are a valuable tool for students who are English Language Learners, dyslexic, reluctant readers, or simply just bored with their day-to-day learning options. Not only that, but comics have also proven to teach more unique words per thousand than adult novels and have the uncanny ability to improve inference, evidence, and comprehension skills in readers of all levels.”
The upcoming activities are just a few of the calendar of events that Bat City offers to help young people improve their reading, writing, and imagination skills. Events like their monthly kids’ book club, educator and parent resources, their summer art and writing intensive, SLAM Academy, and monthly writing workshops help students fall in love with creative learning. And they’re all free to the general public, including the big events like these.
“We are so excited to bring these free, fan-favorite events to our community for the fourth year,” said Live. “All three events are also featured as part of the international Remake Learning Days festival, which has around 300 events in the Suncoast area alone. It’s great to see how active our community is at inspiring a joy for learning in families in the area, and we are honored to be a part of creating hundreds of new readers.”
