An Apple a Day Academy: A Preschool Where Childhood Comes First

For more than 14 years, An Apple a Day Academy has been creating a place where children are free to learn through play, exploration, and meaningful relationships. With locations in Sarasota and West Bradenton, the locally owned preschool has built its reputation by keeping class sizes small, building strong relationships with families, and giving children the time and space to simply be children.

At An Apple a Day Academy, we believe that the early years should be filled with curiosity, creativity, and hands-on experiences. Instead of expecting every child to learn the same way or at the same pace, we recognize that each child is unique. Our teachers take the time to get to know every child, encouraging their interests while helping them grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

Our approach is inspired by the Reggio Emilia, but we don’t believe in putting children into a single educational box. We take what works best from each approach and combine it with play, nature, and real-life experiences to create an environment where children can learn naturally.

One of the things families notice right away is that our classrooms feel different. They’re calm, welcoming, and designed for children…not just filled with bright colors and plastic toys. You’ll find natural materials, open-ended activities, art, books, and plenty of opportunities for outdoor exploration. We believe children learn best when they can ask questions, solve problems, and discover things for themselves.

We also believe relationships matter. By keeping our teacher-to-child ratios lower than Florida requires, our teachers have more time to connect with each child and support their individual needs. Those connections help children build confidence, independence, and a genuine love of learning.

“Everything we do starts with one question: ‘Is this what’s best for the child?'” said Christina Miller, founder of An Apple a Day Academy. “If the answer is yes, we’re on the right path. Childhood is such a short season, and we want every child who walks through our doors to feel safe, loved, and excited to come to school each day.”

As An Apple a Day Academy continues to grow, its mission remains the same: to provide a warm, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to wonder, explore, create, and develop the confidence they’ll carry with them long after preschool.
