After more than three decades of building businesses and working with employers, Bradenton entrepreneur Dennis Cooley kept coming back to a contrast he had seen firsthand.
In the boardroom, important decisions are rarely considered from just one perspective.
Around the table are people with different experiences, responsibilities and points of view. They ask questions. They challenge assumptions. They identify risks and opportunities someone else may have missed.
But in a small business, the person making an equally consequential decision is often sitting alone.
That observation helped inspire My Board OS, a new Bradenton-based technology platform designed to bring the discipline and diverse perspectives of a boardroom to business owners who may never have a traditional board of directors.
“Many of us who serve on boards also own or lead businesses,” Cooley said. “You begin to appreciate what happens when experienced people with different perspectives sit around a table and work through an issue together. Most small-business owners never get that experience in their own companies. That stayed with me.”
My Board OS uses artificial intelligence to create a structured board of directors tailored to the needs of a business. Depending on the company, that board can include perspectives across finance, operations, sales, marketing, human resources, strategy and other relevant disciplines.

“The goal isn’t to have AI run your business,” Cooley said. “The goal is to give the person running the business a better room in which to think.”
Built From the Perspective of a Business Owner
Cooley has spent more than 30 years working in payroll, human resources, employee benefits, insurance and professional employer organization services, while building and operating businesses serving employers throughout Florida and beyond.
His involvement in the Manatee County business community has also given him the opportunity to see decision-making from both sides of the table — as a business owner and as someone involved in boards, committees and community organizations.
Those experiences shaped the philosophy behind My Board OS.
“A good board doesn’t exist to make every decision for the person in charge,” Cooley said. “Its value is often in the questions that get asked before the decision gets made. Sometimes one question from a different perspective completely changes how you see the problem.”

New users can begin with an optional Meet Your Secretary orientation that introduces the boardroom, explains how the system works and helps prepare them for their first meeting.
Cooley believes that continuity is an important distinction between My Board OS and simply opening an AI application whenever a business question arises.
“Good decisions compound,” he said. “One good decision leads to another, but only if you remember why you made the first one, what you expected to happen and whether it actually worked. That’s the rhythm we’re trying to create.”
