Kerkering Barberio Announces Leadership Transition as Firm Looks to Its Next Chapter
Managing Shareholder Rob Lane to retire following a 40-year career; Brian Simmons to assume leadership of the firm January 1, 2027
Kerkering, Barberio & Co. (KB), one of the largest independent certified public accounting firms in Southwest Florida, today announced a planned leadership transition that honors four decades of service while positioning the firm for its next chapter.
Rob Lane will retire at the end of 2026 following a 40-year career with KB, including more than two decades leading the firm as Managing Shareholder. Brian Simmons, who joined KB as a Shareholder in 2023, will become the firm’s Managing Shareholder effective January 1, 2027.
Lane has served as KB’s Managing Shareholder since 2003, helping guide the firm through a period of significant growth and change while remaining deeply committed to its people, clients, and the communities it serves. Throughout his tenure, KB has expanded its capabilities and presence while maintaining its independence and the relationship-driven approach that has defined the firm for more than 50 years.
Beyond his leadership at KB, Lane has made a lasting impact throughout the community. Throughout his career, he has dedicated his time and leadership to organizations and initiatives across the region, reflecting a commitment to service that has extended well beyond the walls of the firm.
“Leading KB has been one of the greatest privileges of my career,” said Lane. “For more than 40 years, I have had the opportunity to work alongside incredibly talented people, serve clients who have placed tremendous trust in us, and be part of a community that means so much to me. Brian understands what makes this firm special, and I have tremendous confidence in his leadership and in the team that will carry KB forward.”
Brian Simmons joined KB as a Shareholder in 2023 and has since played an active role in the firm’s leadership and strategic direction. As Managing Shareholder, he will lead KB as the firm continues to invest in its people, strengthen its capabilities, and build on the foundation established over more than five decades.
“Rob’s impact on KB cannot be measured simply by the years he has led the firm,” said Simmons. “It can be seen in our people, our culture, the relationships we have with our clients, and the role KB plays in our community. He has built an extraordinary legacy, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from him and work alongside him during this transition.
Simmons added, “As we look ahead, our responsibility is not to change what has made KB successful, but to continue building upon it. We have an incredible team, strong relationships, and tremendous opportunities ahead. I am honored to step into this role and help lead KB into its next chapter.”
