City of Bradenton Response to Aviata Partial Roof Collapse

The City of Bradenton’s highest priority is the health and safety of Aviata’s residents, staff, and visitors.

Following the partial roof collapse on Saturday, July 25, 2026, the property owner retained a licensed structural engineer and general contractor to assess the building. The City is awaiting that engineer’s report, which must be submitted before the City’s review can begin.

The City has provided the property owner with a formal letter outlining the structural evaluations, inspections, and documentation required under the Florida Building Code and Florida Fire Prevention Code before the building may be considered for reoccupancy.

The property owner is responsible for engaging qualified professionals to evaluate the building and complete any required repairs. The City’s role is to review the findings, determine permit requirements, conduct required inspections, and verify compliance with building and fire codes.

While the City does not routinely perform comprehensive structural inspections of existing occupied private facilities under the Florida Building Code, the collapse has triggered additional code requirements, including an engineering evaluation and City review, before the building may be considered for reoccupancy.
