Lakewood Ranch Medical Center Celebrates Topping Off Ceremony for New Tower on Hospital Campus

– Lakewood Ranch Medical Center (LWRMC) hosted a ceremony on Friday, June 20th to commemorate the topping off of the new 170,000 sq. ft., $120 million, five-story patient tower. The topping off ceremony celebrated the placement of the final structural beam, marking a significant milestone in construction as the building reaches its full height and the structural framework is completed.

“The topping off of our new five-story patient tower marks an exciting and important milestone in the growth of Lakewood Ranch Medical Center,” says Rob J. Anderson, Chief Executive Officer at LWRMC. “This expansion will allow us to introduce new service lines and enhance our ability to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our community. We’re proud to take this step forward in advancing the level of care we provide to our patients and their families.”

The new tower is expected to be completed in early 2026 and is being constructed in two phases. The first phase will add 60 beds which will increase the total number of licensed beds from 120 to 180. Thirty beds will be for intensive care unit patients and 30 will be for progressive care patients, which will help facilitate emergency room patient flow. Increasing the hospital’s capacity will also allow for growth in more complex, higher acuity services.

Key ancillary departments including Laboratory, Pharmacy, Pre-Admission Testing and Food and Nutrition Services will also be expanded during the first phase of the construction project.

The tower will include shell space for two more floors and an additional 60 patient beds as the hospital grows and adds services. Once completed, it will bring the number of total licensed beds to 240 – doubling current bed capacity.
