Local Leaders and Community Members to Go “Over The Edge” to Help End Child Hunger & Homelessness in Manatee County
The Salvation Army of Manatee County is inviting the community to be part of something truly unforgettable—an event that is equal parts thrilling and transformational. On Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23, participants will step to the edge of the Palmetto Marriott Resort & Spa and rappel down eight stories—not just for the experience, but for a purpose far greater than themselves.
This signature fundraising event, “Over The Edge: Rappel for a Cause,” is designed to raise critical funds to support local children and families facing hunger, homelessness, and instability right here in Manatee County. “This is more than just a rappel—it’s a powerful demonstration of what happens when a community comes together to stand in the gap for those who need us most,” said Deral Pitts, Director of Community Relations & Development for The Salvation Army of Manatee County. “Every step over that edge represents hope for a child who needs food, a safe place to sleep, and the chance at a brighter future.”
A Two-Day Community Experience
Friday, May 22 | 3:00 PM — Media & VIP Event
The weekend kicks off with a special Media & VIP Experience, featuring local mayors, a judge, a councilman, and other community leaders who will take the first step over the edge. Come out and cheer on participants.
Saturday, May 23 | 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM — Public Rappelling Event
On Saturday, the experience opens to the public, giving individuals the opportunity to rappel down the side of the Palmetto Marriott after raising a minimum of $1,000. Spots are still available to rappel for Saturday.
Why It Matters
Across Manatee County, too many children are going to bed hungry or without a stable place to call home. Funds raised will directly support emergency shelter, nutritious meals, and stability programs for families in crisis.
