THEY KEEP ABANDONING DOGS. SHE REFUSES TO ABANDON HOPE.
A Small Manatee County Nonprofit Fights to Build a Self-Sustaining Dog Rescue—One Holiday Poinsettia at a Time
Every week, dogs are being abandoned on or around the rural property where Queen’s Ranch Dog Rescue is fighting to build a sanctuary for animals just like them.
The irony is heartbreaking.
The land is there. The vision is there. The determination is in our souls. But the funding needed to turn that land into a fully operational, self-sustaining dog rescue remains one of the greatest obstacles facing this small nonprofit organization.
And while the construction plans wait for financial support, the dogs cannot wait.
For Pia Ceccarelli-Rosenberg, founder of Queen’s Ranch Dog Rescue, walking away has never been an option.
“Imagine owning the land where you dream of saving abandoned dogs, only to watch dogs being abandoned there before you even have the resources to build their sanctuary. That is the heartbreaking reality we are facing. But I refuse to give up on them.”
A Dream Built on Compassion, Not Wealth
Located on 5.5 acres in rural Duette, Florida, Queen’s Ranch was envisioned as something far greater than a traditional dog rescue.
The mission is to create a self-sustaining, no-kill sanctuary where abandoned, neglected, and unwanted dogs can receive safety, rehabilitation, exercise, socialization, and the opportunity for a better life.
The long-term vision includes caring for approximately 100 dogs and developing sustainable revenue-generating activities to help cover their ongoing needs.
But turning raw land into a functioning rescue requires enormous financial resources.
Water infrastructure, irrigation, safe animal housing, fencing, sanitation facilities, and other essential improvements must be developed before the sanctuary can reach its full potential.
For a small nonprofit without substantial financial backing, every phase represents another mountain to climb.
There are no endless reserves of money. No wealthy corporate benefactors waiting in the wings. Just a determined founder, a mission rooted in compassion, and the hope that the community will recognize the urgency of what is being built.
“The hardest part isn’t the physical work or the long days. It’s knowing how many animals need help while looking at everything that still needs to be built. Every delay means more time that we cannot offer these dogs the sanctuary they deserve.”
The Dogs Don’t Understand Financial Challenges
Dogs do not understand construction permits, fundraising goals, infrastructure costs, or nonprofit budgets.
They only understand being hungry, frightened, confused, and abandoned.
They don’t know why someone drove away without them.
They don’t know why the home they once knew is gone.
And they certainly don’t know that somewhere in Manatee County, a woman is fighting against financial obstacles to build a place where dogs like them will never have to experience abandonment again.
That is what makes the struggle at Queen’s Ranch so deeply personal.
The organization is not asking the community to fund a luxury project. It is asking for help building a future in which vulnerable animals have somewhere safe to go.
This Christmas, a Simple Poinsettia Can Help Keep the Dream Alive
Rather than surrendering to the financial challenges, Queen’s Ranch is turning to a simple holiday tradition to raise funds.
The nonprofit has launched its 2026 Holiday Poinsettia Fundraiser, offering beautiful, locally grown red poinsettias supplied by Orban’s Nursery.
Every purchase helps support the continued development of Queen’s Ranch Dog Rescue.
The holiday plants are available for:
- $15 each for orders of 1–4 plants.
- $13 each for orders of 5 or more plants.
- FREE local delivery for orders of 5 or more plants in Parrish, Palmetto, Bradenton, and Lakewood Ranch.
- Ranch pickup: December 5–6, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Businesses, churches, neighborhood associations, community organizations, and families are encouraged to participate by purchasing poinsettias for holiday decorating, employee appreciation, client gifts, or loved ones.

A Call to a Community That Has the Power to Make a Difference
For Queen’s Ranch, this fundraiser is about far more than selling Christmas flowers.
It is about asking a community to believe that a small nonprofit, even without major financial resources, can accomplish something extraordinary when people come together.
A single poinsettia will not build an entire sanctuary.
But hundreds of purchases, generous business partnerships, volunteers, sponsors, and people willing to share the story can move the mission forward.
“I cannot build this sanctuary alone. I have the land, I have the determination, and I have dedicated myself to making this dream a reality. What I need now is for our community to stand beside me. These dogs have already been abandoned once. I don’t want our community to abandon their future, too.”
Queen’s Ranch is inviting local businesses to become partners in the mission—not only by purchasing poinsettias but also by exploring sponsorship opportunities, in-kind donations, and support for the infrastructure needed to bring the sanctuary to life.
The goal is not to create a rescue that must constantly depend on donations to survive. It is to build one that can eventually sustain its operations while providing lasting care for animals in need.
The Dream Is Still Alive. The Need Is Still Urgent.
This holiday season, while families gather around Christmas trees and exchange gifts, abandoned dogs across our communities will continue waiting for someone to care.
Queen’s Ranch cannot save every dog today.
But with the community’s help, it can continue building a place that will save lives for years to come.
This Christmas, don’t just decorate for the holidays. Help build a future where abandoned dogs are never forgotten.
Purchase a poinsettia. Share the story. Become a sponsor. Help build Queen’s Ranch.
