Sarasota Bradenton International Airport Appoints New Police Chief
Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority, which operates Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), has appointed Joseph Centanni, a 31-year law enforcement veteran, as its new Chief of Police, effective June 2026. Chief Centanni succeeds Chief Jeremy Beal, who retired earlier this year following a distinguished career of service.
Chief Centanni brings extensive experience in operations, investigations, administration and executive leadership to SRQ. His career began in 1995 with the Troy, New York Police Department, where he served for 25 years in a wide range of leadership roles. He concluded his tenure there as Captain of Detectives after serving as a detective, SWAT team member, academy instructor and commander of several specialized units.
In 2021, Centanni was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Watervliet, New York Police Department. During his tenure, he led significant organizational improvements, including the implementation of body-worn cameras, establishment of a School Resource Officer program, expansion of the Criminal Investigations Unit, and securing a $500,000 U.S. Department of Justice grant to enhance domestic violence investigations.
Before joining SRQ, Centanni served as Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Plant City, Florida Police Department, overseeing the Investigations and Information Services Division.
Centanni holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, a Master of Arts in Social and Public Policy and a Graduate Certificate in Community Advocacy. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has been selected to attend Session 83 of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (LEEDS), with graduation scheduled for August 2026.

In accepting the role, Chief Centanni emphasized the value of collaboration, communication and community-focused policing.
